Privacy Policy

This policy covers both the Android app Senscoder and this website (senscoder.jakab.info). In short: the app processes sensor data solely on your device. It transmits no data to me or to any third party, contains no analytics or advertising SDKs, and needs no user account.

What "no tracking" means here

Senscoder contains no analytics, telemetry, or advertising libraries. Which views you open, how long you use the app, and what your device measures are never recorded, analysed, or shared.

This refers exclusively to tracking user behaviour. The app's own measurement features — such as following your position on the map — keep working, but run entirely on your device and cause no data transmission.

Data processing by the app

Senscoder is offline-first: the app requests no internet permission, runs no servers of its own, and never transmits sensor data, location data, or audio data to me or to any third party. It works fully and without limitation with no internet access at all.

  • Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION). Used only after you grant permission and while you use a feature that requires location, to provide location-based measurements on the device. The app keeps no location history of its own and does not transmit your position. Location is never accessed in the background.
  • Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO). Used only after you grant permission and while you use a feature that requires microphone access, to evaluate sound in real time on the device. The audio signal is processed in memory only; no audio recording is stored or transmitted.
  • Wi-Fi and nearby networks. The Wi-Fi instrument reads Android's local connection data and performs a nearby-network scan only when you request it while the view is visible. Depending on the Android version, scanning requires precise location; Wi-Fi RTT additionally uses the Nearby Wi-Fi devices permission. Network names, access-point identifiers, signal readings, security metadata, and RTT results are processed in memory for display only. Senscoder does not connect to, configure, or retain a history of observed networks and generates no internet or speed-test traffic.
  • Nearby Bluetooth devices (BLUETOOTH_SCAN / BLUETOOTH_CONNECT). On Android 12 and later, these permissions are used for an explicitly started, 12-second BLE scan and for reading the local Bluetooth adapter state. Older Android versions use precise location permission for BLE discovery as required by the platform. Senscoder displays Android's transient advertisement reports, which can include device names, rotating addresses, signal strength, services, and manufacturer identifiers. It does not pair, connect, inspect private services, scan in the background, or retain scan history after the session.
  • NFC. While the NFC view is visible, Android reader mode processes a tag's identifier, radio technologies, and cached NDEF records locally. Tag content may contain text, URIs, MIME types, or external-record metadata. Senscoder only displays this data; it never opens a URI, writes, formats, locks, stores, or transmits a tag.
  • Other sensors. Compass, accelerometer, barometer, magnetometer, light, and proximity sensors require no runtime permission. Their values are computed for display only, while the relevant view is visible.
  • Local settings. Display preferences, measurement units, and the selected language are stored only locally on the device. Android system backup is disabled for Senscoder, so these settings are included neither in a cloud backup of your Google account nor in a device-to-device transfer.

Recording and exporting measurement data

Senscoder currently does not persistently record measurement series. A recording feature is planned (e.g. position, altitude, pressure, speed, and heading over time), and the same principle applies to it:

  • A recording starts only when you explicitly start it.
  • The data is written solely to a local file on your device.
  • Export to an interchange format happens only on your action, and only to the destination you choose yourself.
  • No transmission to me or to any third party takes place. Recorded files are likewise excluded from Android system backup.

Outbound connections

The app holds no internet permission and therefore cannot open a connection to external services on its own. The one exception is a deliberate tap: the links to this privacy policy and to the imprint on the Settings screen open your browser. Only then — and only then — is a connection to this website established.

Legal basis

The processing described above takes place solely on your device. I never learn of it and at no point have access to this data.

Accessing your device's sensors and storing settings on your device are strictly necessary to provide the service you explicitly requested (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG, the German implementation of the ePrivacy Directive). Access to location, microphone, nearby Wi-Fi devices, and nearby Bluetooth devices additionally happens only after you have granted it via Android's permission prompt; you can revoke that grant at any time in the Android settings. Since no personal data becomes accessible to me in the process, I do not process any.

Distribution via Google Play

Senscoder is distributed as a paid app through Google Play. Purchase, payment processing, licensing, download, and updates take place through Google Play, not inside the app or on this website. Google processes Google Account, contact, payment, order, device, installation, and diagnostics data under its own responsibility.

Google gives me access through Play Console to sales statistics, financial reports, and data for managing individual orders. An order can be found there by its order number or the purchaser's email address; the available details may include the product, amount, taxes, transaction status, and order history. I use such data only to administer purchases and refunds, answer support requests, and meet statutory accounting and record keeping obligations. The legal bases, where applicable, are Art. 6(1)(b), (c), and (f) GDPR.

The Senscoder app itself receives no access to payment data or the user's Google Account. See the Google Privacy Policy for further information.

Data processing by this website

This website consists of static HTML, CSS, and minimal JavaScript. It sets no cookies, embeds no third-party analytics or advertising services, and loads no external fonts or scripts.

This website is delivered through Vercel Inc., based in the United States. When the site is accessed, Vercel processes technical traffic data, including the IP address, approximate location derived from it, system configuration, and browser, device, timestamp, and request data. This processing is necessary to deliver and secure the website and investigate technical errors. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in a secure and reliable website under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

I operate no additional analytics tools and do not send my own server logs to other services. Vercel may process data in the United States and other countries and retains it according to the necessity and statutory-retention criteria described in its own notice. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, and restrict the processing of personal data concerning you, as well as a right to data portability and objection, to the extent personal data is actually processed. This may particularly concern technical website data and order data made available to me through Google Play. For data processed by Google or Vercel under their own responsibility, you may also exercise your rights directly with them. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the authority responsible for my location in Bavaria, the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, BayLDA), Promenade 27, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
